OPPOSITIONS IN LIFE

Located in a part of the city away from the crowds, it is a cute coffee shop where the voices of its customers and the smell of freshly brewed coffee mix together. Tereza and Tomas, two friends who often got into deep arguments, were among the regulars. It was rainy and the sound of the rain hitting the windows pushed these two characters into deep thoughts. At that moment, Tereza took a sip of her steaming coffee and turned to Tomas and asked the question that came to her mind.

“Do you think that everything exists with its opposite? Like hot and cold, light and   dark, or lightness and heaviness?” she said with eyes waiting for an answer.

Faced with Tereza's question, Tomas took the lighter from the table and lit his cigarette. Tereza's question forced him to bring the thoughts in the far corners of his mind to the fore.
“Frankly, I hadn't thought of this before,” he said.
After this sentence, he takes another breath from his cigarette and starts to think, watching people running around in the rain.

“Yes, there are oppositions in our lives, and yes, we cannot think of the existence of one without the other. We cannot understand cold without feeling heat, darkness without feeling light, and weight without knowing lightness.”
Realising that this question is not enough, Tereza continues her speech:
“So, which one do you think is positive and which one is negative? How would you decide this?”
“You're asking some pretty deep questions today, Tereza? Is it the rain that affects you so much?”
“You're right, but I just want to deepen our conversation.”
“Okay okay, give me some space to think.”
Tomas took another breath on his cigarette and continued talking.
“For me, hot is positive and cold is negative. Light is positive and dark is negative. Likewise, lightness is positive and weight is negative. As for why I think this way, it's completely impulsive.”
“I understand. I don't know why either, but I think the same way as you. I read a book recently and it talked about exactly this subject. In addition, he also talks about eternal return,” she said.
“What is that?”
“So, do we live our lives only once, or are we born again after each death and live the same life?”
Tomas looked at Tereza with wide eyes and put out his cigarette.
“I'm really going to have a brain explosion right now. Can we please close this topic? I just want to enjoy the falling rain and this beautiful coffee.”
“Ok, no more questions…”
